April 2011 favorites

I've decided that I want to start doing the "favorites" post. I am probably not going to do them every month, or even every other month, but just whenever I have some new or interesting products to show that much. I know that it is pretty late to do an APRIL favorites but whatevs...... I don't feel like waiting until the end of May.

If you don't know what an april favorites is, all you do is basically talk about the products you have been loving and using the most that month. They can be fragrance, makeup, hair, skincare, or anything like that. Also, you can add in a few random favorites, such as music or books, just for fun.

1. Santee nail laquer in white- I originally bought this because I wanted to do newspaper nails. But After applying just 2 coats I realized that it was soooo opaque for a white nail polish. White nail polishes are usually very sheer and it takes a lot of coats to get them accurate to the color you see in the bottle. But the best part, i bought this for $1!

2. china glaze neon purple panic- This is my favorite nail polish for my toes because it is so vivid an fun. It is literally the most shocking bright hot pink I have ever seen in my life. It is a bit of a fuschia though, so not a true pink. I have been wearing this on my toes for the entire month of April.

3. cvs pharmacy mint masque- Oh my gosh, for a freakin' CVS brand product, this is pretty amazing! I was in CVS and I just spontaneously decided to buy this skincare product because I really wanted to start taking care of my skin better. It is the typical "green monster" masque, which actually makes it kind of fun. The mint really refreshes and cleans your skin and after I have removed it, my pores feel so much tighter. It was inexpensive as well.

4. cvs facial cleanser- Another great CVS skincare product. This is just my everyday cleanser. It is sometimes to be compared to the purpose cleanser, but I like this one better. It is not very heavy duty, but it just leaves your skin feeling fresh and obviously cleansed. If I don't use this, my skin feels yucky.

5. Pink body splash in fresh and clean- Although this is not a really unique or exciting scent that I would rush out and buy, I have still been wearing it a lot. It is simple, with just notes of lily and fresh apple. It is not too much, just a nice soft scent for spring to wear everyday. At first, I didn't care too much for the scent because it wasn't interesting enough for me, but I am actually starting to really like this now.

6. softlips vanilla lip balm- Last month and this month, I have been just applying lip balm instead of lip gloss. It gives a slight shine, while looking natural and moisturizing your lips. It is the best vanilla scent and feels so good when you have chapped lips. I've really been wearing this a lot.

7. Juicy couture perfume- This is the original one I think. It smells really floral actually and great for spring, although that is not what I have heard from other reviews. Any way, once I bought this, I literally wore it for like a week straight. I have not done that for any other perfume! But now, I am barely wearing it because I want to save it up!

and just for fun I'll add some random music favorites for this month, too!

1. The Wolf by Fever Ray- Oh my gosh I am addicted to this song! This is the song that was featured in Red Riding Hood in the dance party scene. The lyrics are just thrilling and the song is sooo good.

2. Jar of Hearts by Christina Perri- I love this song so much! It has so much emotion and it is just great to listen to.

3. Keep the streets empty for me- I am starting to love this band. The lyrics are AMAZING! seriously, just listen to it.

Happy Mother's Day + Sonia Kashuk face palette- spring awakenings

Happy mother's day everyone! My mother, aunt, and I celebrate my mother by having lunch at a really yummy vegan restaurant. The food was soooo good! And best of all, cruelty free. For dessert, I had a really good vegan strawberry shortcake.

For mother's day, I got my mom a Sonia Kashuk face palette in "spring awakenings". She has been wanting to buy herself some new makeup for a really long time, so I thought it would be something nice to get her.
It was $20 at target. It came with a bright peach glitter blush, 5 nuetral eyeshadow colors, and 3 lipglosses. It was really conveniant for my mom because she could just close it up and throw it into her purse. No additional cosmetic bags needed.

So after that amazing vegan meal and gift opening, we just went home and relaxed. My mom and I both put on a facial mask, too.  I will hopefully have a full review on the mint masque in another post!

Happy Mother's Day!

Tag: Back in the Day

1. What was your favorite gaming system/Device?
I was absolutely obsessed with my Nintendo DS! My friend and I both had the Ninten Dogs or whatever it's called, and we played it all the time. I got waayy too connected to that game!

2. What was your favorite TV Show?
Gosh, I don't remember! I am pretty sure that I really like Madeline, though. I mostly watched PBS kids as a child. I also loved cartoons, like Tom & Jerry.

But I have to say that my all time favorite tv show was the powerpuff girls. My friends and I used to always play with the little powerpuff girl dolls and get into fights over who got to be Blossom.

3. What was your favorite movie?
The only movies that I watched were disney movies and shirley temple movies. My grandmother and I both loved Shirley Temple. My favorite disney movie that I liked to watch was 101 dalamations.

4. What was your favorite food or drink or meal?

When I was really young, I loved Persian pastries and cookies! I also, of course loved vegetarian food, since I turned vegetarian at the age of 5 :)

5. What was one of your most important objects?
I had this stuffed animal dog named Bingo that I would never leave out of my sight. I named it Bingo and slept with her every single night! When I was especially young, I actually convinced myself that she was a real dog. Silly, I know, but it was cute.

6. What was your career aspiration?
I wanted to be an artist and a writer. I still enjoy writing poetry and stories that I never seem to finish up, but it's not like my dream job or anything anymore. I used to love drawing random pictures, but nothing really that special. I am generally artistic person, though :) That's where the fashion comes in.

7. What was your favorite computer game or online website?
I loved playing pac man and various mario games on random websites. None of those violent games...

OH, and I also loved Webkinz. You know, the game with the stuffed animals that you virtually take care of and stuff????

8. What was your favorite song, artist, or band?
Pretty much all the music that I listened to when I was younger was from the tv shows that I watched. Like the theme songs or just musicals. I liked the Bingo song.

9. Show a picture that could describe you as a child.
I only have recent pictures of me on my computer.

10. What was your favorite book?
Doctor Suess will always be my favorite. All his books were my favorite.

11. What was your favorite store?
I think that I used to shop at the Children's Place alot. But I didn't really have one specific shop that I identified as my favorite store, you know?

Anyways, so that is the tag. Lot's of fun questions. I tag anyone who is reading this and feels like doing it :)

Sweatshops in the fashion world: Are they worth it?

There is a reason that I don't shop at forever21 anymore even though they have really cute stuff. Sweatshops. Forever21 and tons of other stores in the US use sweatshops to produce their clothing.

A few months ago, I promised to myself that I would try my hardest to not buy from any stores that used sweatshops. Sweatshops are clothing factories deemed dangerous, unsanitary, or unsafe. A working environment that is difficult with unacceptable conditions. For example, it may include hazardous materials or extremely dangerous tools. And often, the workers are treated very, very, VERY poorly and are paid barely anything. It's not really considered slavery because they are getting paid that miniscule amount, but it comes very close.

Here are a list of stores and companies that currently use sweatshops:
1. Hollister
2. Walmart
3. Abrecrombie and Fitch
4. Aeropostale
5. Forever21
6. Guess
7. Old Navy
8. The Disney Store
9. Nike
10. Adidas
11. Converse (Nike bought the converse company)
12. Gap
13. Banana Republic
14. Tommy H

Some alternatives are H&M, Charlotte Russe, Hot Topic, Wet Seal, just to name a few.

Some argue that many stores in the US use sweatshops that we don't even know about. And that there is no point to go sweatshop free because it would be impossible to know all the stores that use them. However, we can still do what we can, and that is what counts. I challenge all of you to stop shopping at 3 of those stores that use sweatshops so that you can do your part. Every store counts.

What are your thoughts on sweatshops?
