Spring Trends

Hey bloggers :)

I'm in study hall right now and extremely bored because I have no homework to do. So of course, I blog.  Well, actually I will probably be out of study hall by the time that I post this, but whatev...

Haha, actually it's spring break now that I'm finally posting this...huh....

I've been getting a lot of fashion inspiration lately, which is a change for me, because for the past year I've kind just been obsessing over nail polish over anything else. These "trends" are just my opinion and view on what I think is becoming popular for hair, makeup, and fashion in spring. And as always, make sure to add your own unique twist to all of thee "trends" to make your style truly one of a kind! Enjoy :)

HAIR TRENDS:

1. Braids- This spring, pretty much any type of braid in your hair is extremely popular. Wether it is a braided headband to jazz up your normal ponytail, it's all good. I personally really love fishtail braids because it is something a little different from the norm. The other good thing about braids is that it leaves really nice curls/waves in your hair if you leave them in for a long time. And it makes really unique looking curls if you already have curly hair.

2. Messy buns- Really messy do's are really cute and casual for this spring. At my school, a lot of girls are just wearing casual buns. Not real buns with bobby pins and everything, but just those double ponytail buns. There is not that much to this look and it is as simple as simple can be, but that is probably why it is one of the biggest trends. With a few loose fly-aways and a cute bow bun, you'll be good to go.

FASHION TRENDS:
1. Cropped Tops- Flowy, comfortable, baggy, cute, playful, breezy, everything about them just sounds and looks like spring. You can get a plain color or a cool design to jazz it up. Since almost everyone is wearing these, and I didn't want to just be like everyone else, I got a cropped top with an artistic and unique butterfly design. You can really do a lot with cropped tops and they can work for many different things. They also look cute with a blazer and leggings. Leggings are good for spring too :)

2. Feather Earrings- Feather earrings are great for the boho/indie/hippie style. They can also be edgy too.  They are just really fun and fashionable and can make any plain outfit instantly chic. But of course, since I so passionate about my veganism, make sure you get FAKE feathers. Because what they do to animals in the fashion industry is more cruel that most people know about. The earrings might be cute, but trust, what they do the birds is not. If you get the earrings from a place like Charlotte Russe or Claire's, they will most likely be fake or recycled. But if you get them from a more expensive brand than they will probably be real. Feather earrings of course remind you of birds, which remind you of spring. They are really pretty with curled hair and you can get them in all sorts of pretty colors.

3. Big jewelrey- Big rings and big rings are so stylish for this spring. Of course, you don't want to get earrings that are so big they rip your earlobes, though. The most important thing to remember though is that the material matters more than the size, as far as damaging your ears. I've noticed that a lot of girls are using big and statement jewlrey (especially rings and earrings) to jazz up an otherwise ordinary outfit.

4. combat boots- combat boots are in for spring, no matter what your style is. Edgy, Girly, tomboy, punky, romantic, boho, indie, hippie, you name it, it can work for any style. I have seen girls with every single style you can think of, rockin' the combat boots! I mean, Come on, combat boots are just AWESOME.

5. Straight up florals-  Now I'm not talking about some slight florals details added in to decorate a shirt. I"m talkin about FULL ON FLORALS! It was popular last spring and its coming back this year. If you want to edge up this look a bit, just add some black lace up combat boots and a pleather jacket (fashionably animal friendly!). This is a style that Aria Montgomery from Pretty Little Liars seems to go for a lot in the show.

6. The "distressed look"-distressed jeans, combat boots. I don't want to say too much about this spring trend because I will be doing a seperate blog post about it sometime in the near future.

7. Animal-inspired fashion- Owl necklaces, elephant necklaces, feather earrings, ladybug rings, dove bracelets, anything that has to do with insects or animals is a trend for spring. It seems to be insects in particular though. I have even been seeing ant/beetle rings, and as strange as it might sound, it actually adds a very interesting and quirky touch to someone's fashion look. I personally really like it. I think it's fun and different. This is mostly in jewlrey, but I have seen it in clothing items, too.

MAKEUP/BEAUTY TRENDS:
1. Orange lips- I know it sounds crazy, but come on, it's unique. I wouldn't recommend sporting this look if you are in middle school like me, but if you are a little bit older you might be able to pull off this really bright and fun lip color. If the idea of orange lips is a little intimidating or just not appropiate for your school, a nice coral shade is a good alternative.

2. Almost black nail polish- now I know that spring is usually the time for pastel nail polish, but darker nail polish is actually really becoming popular. This year, the romantic mixed with edgy look is becoming really popular, which is probably why dark nails are in for spring. Any shade that is so dark that it looks black, but really is not. OPI has a lot of these types of colors. Some examples are Lincoln Park After Dark (a favorite for many) and Here Today, Aragon tomorrow.

I NEED SOME MORE PRETTY LITTLE LIARS!!!

I feel like I am going into my degrassi-obsessed tv phase all over again, expect this time it's with pretty little liars. What can I say, I love the show! My favorite character is Spencer, and oh my gosh, I feel so bad for her, everything with Ian and Melissa. I definitely do NOT like her sister! How scary was that when Ian's body dissapeared? I'm thinking maybe "A" is still trying to frame spencer and make it look like she made Ian dissapear or something like that. Who do you think the black hoodie was? I have absolutely no idea. All I know is that Melissa is going to freak when she hears about Ian's dissapearance. As far as Aria goes, I think she is being totally ridiculous about the whole thing with Mr. Fitz. I mean, come on, it's not like she hasn't dated guys before who have broken up with her. If they didn't, then she would definitely still be with them. I don't know, everyone loves Aria, but she is probably my least favorite. But I love her  style, and Spencer's too :)

I can't believe I have to wait until june 14th for another pretty little liars episode...huh.. so sad :(

Some recent fashion purchases

So I have been sooo inspired for fashion lately, and I just wanted to show some accesories that I recently bought. I think I will do a post later on about the actual clothing items. But for now, we are talking about shoes and jewlrey!

I got these sandals/flip flops (whatever you want to call them) at Charlotte Russe, for only $15. The actual shoe itself is a tan color and the woven part is obviously black. Like I said, it has a really nice woven pattern and the material is actually really stretchy. It's always good to have a pair of sandals like this in your wardrobe. They are also great for this time of year now that spring has come around!

I also got these earrings from Charlotte Russe. Actually, now that I think about it, everything in this post was purchased at Charlotte Russe! Anyway, they are super big and super cute. I am such a big fan of big earrings, and I really want to get some more. They are just silver and have a worn down, vintage look. Well, kinda. These would look really good with some black lace-up combat boots and leggings. These earrings were $8 on their own but they had this AMAZING deal where you could buy two pairs of $8 earrings for only $6 in total! Two $8 earrings for just $6 :)

Okay, I lied. Not everything from this post is from Charlotte Russe! Well, most of it. This ring, I got from H&M, another one of my favorite stores. I think it was around $6. Not too expensive, not too cheap. It's a really pretty turquoise color (my birthstone haha), but they also sold them in brown and baby pink. Unfortunately, the pictures don't do the ring much justice because you can't see all the beautiful details. It adds an antique middle eastern touch to any outfit. Ahh, I love it soo much! H&M also featured it in their spring 2011 magazine. They described it as "boho" and "fabulous with denim"

Imperfections = beauty

Today I really felt inspired to talk about something incredibly important. The beauty industry and it's connection with a girl's self esteem. Two people actually came to my school the other day to talk about the type of image that the media/beauty industry was portraying on women. This really got me thinking. Now, I know that this blog is beauty-themed and many girls (including me) enjoy reading other makeup/fashion blogs and watching beauty gurus on youtube. Which is actually part of the reason I feel I need to talk about this. Even though I am interested in beauty, makeup, and fashion, I have never been one of those girls who can't stand to stare at herself in the mirror with no makeup on. No one should be that girl. Every single girl on this planet is beautiful in their own way. And if your personality isn't beautiful, there is only so much that makeup can cover up. What is beauty? To me, beauty is when you can see a girl's confidence radiate off of her. When someone is comfortable with who they are and not afraid to show it, that is beauty. What is perfection? What is imperfection? I could sit here and list all the things I would have to do and change about myself in order for everyone to see me as perfect. But I won't, and I can't. Have you ever done is? Have you ever just sat down and said, I would have to get rid of all my acne, make myself taller, have fuller lips, less wrinkles, straighten my hair everyday, change my clothing style. But then you realize that all these imperfections, they are the things that define who you are. Who would we be without our tiny little flaws, our imperfections? Of course I don't love the tiny little imperfections, I have learned to be confident regardless if they are there or not. There honestly is no true meaning of perfection. That is the difference between beauty and perfection. Beauty is the imperfections. If someone were "perfect" (if that is even possible), they would not be truly beautiful in my eyes. The imperfections of every single person is what makes them so beautiful, and there confidence and acceptance with that is what makes them even more beautiful.

Here are two videos that my friends and I watched in school. They are pretty powerful. The first video shows how every single girl has to deal with all this pressure of being perfect, from models and advertisements and everything of the sort. It is a bit graphic though, just a warning. The second video shows how supermodels are transformed into completely different people by the computer.

J.R. Watkins lavander body oil revew......

Hey people! Yes, I know,  I haven't posted in, what, a little over a week??? I don't even know. For some bloggers that is nothing, but to me it's a long time. With all that said, today is a review, a jr. watkins body oil review, to be specific.

First off, what's great about this product is that it's all natural, guilt-free, and it works great as well. Basically, it is just a lavendar scented body oil that you can use as a massage oil or to heal your cuticles. But you can also just use it to rub all over your body to moisturize. It is also really great to soften your cracked/rough feet, knees, or elbows. Overall, it's a really great and useful product to moisture your body and cuticles with.

As far as the scent goes, the one that I have is lavender. It is not like a baby-powder lavender, or a musky lavender. It is a natural smelling, herbal-like lavender smell. It almost smells a bit nutty, too. It is not your typical floral, musky, perfumey lavender. It is more of an organic lavender, but it still smells amazing. Not to mention the scent is soooo soothing and sooo calming.  But if you are not a fan of lavender scents, they also have aloe & green tea, mango, and lemon. I have not tried out any of these other scents.

For price, it is $8, according to their website. Unfortunately, though, I am not sure where you can get it besides their website. But I am pretty sure if you go to target or some other drugstore, you will be able to find it. I know I already said that this product (the entire company, actually) is 90-100% natural. Not only that, but it is also:
*Sodium Lauryl Sulfate Free
• Sodium Laureth Sulfate Free
• Paraben Free
• Phthalate Free
• Mineral Oil, Petrolatum free
• Dye Free

So for everyone who is watching out for chemicals and everything, there you go, the perfect body oil for you. Their company also has lotions, soaps, lip balms, and other really great things.

Great inspirational videos to watch....

I haven't done a blog post in forever, but I've been sooo busy with school. And, I've got really caught up in figure skating, which I'll hopefully do a post about in the future. But basically, I am writing this new blog post in my study hall elective-Sshhh, I'm supposed to be doing homework!

Anywho, I wanted to talk about the youtube beauty community today. I am subscribed to so many different girls (and guys too!) who talk about their favorite products, review, fashion style, and absolutely everything makeup, beauty, and fashion related. At first, it sounds cheesy and superficial, I know, but I promise you, It's a really cool idea and the girls are so sweet.

And although these girls are there to talk about which drugstore mascara won't clump your eyelashes and whatnot, it makes me smile when they post videos about issues in the world every once in a while. Most of these girls are just such good, good people and it really shows when they make videos like that.

Here is one of my favorites. Her name is Marlena (MakeupGeek) and she made a video about a rare disease called Batten Disease)

The next one is actually not a beauty guru, but the message of the video is so beautiful that I wanted to share it anyway. The youtuber's name is SupaDupaFlyGirl and she makes random and funny videos.

So ya, there are the inspirational, beautiful, wonderful, meaningful, thoughtful, special videos of the day. The second video especially touched me, and I hope it touched you too :)
